Update on Amazon Deliveries

By John Dackow (Strategic Committee Chair) — A little background and some updated news on Sunday Amazon package deliveries.

  • Our postal route is handled by an independent nationwide contractor agreement(that is why they use their own vehicles)
  • Contractor agreement states that no deliveries to houses can be made past 1/2 mile from the beginning of a Dead End Street.
  • On Sundays, the Post Office used Postal vehicles to deliver Amazon packages only per a separate agreement with Amazon.  but according to Albany Post Office, since they were doing it on a contractor route, they should have been bound by the rules and regulations that contractors need to follow

Due to some recent issues with package deliveries on Sunday from Amazon, the Consumers Affair Dept had been notified by a resident as to a Sunday delivery situation, which then came back to the Albany Post Office, which governs the Gloversville Post Office.

Because of this, the Gloversville Post Office has been instructed that they must strictly abide by the contractor agreement they have which states that no deliveries can be made further than 1/2 mile from the beginning of dead end roads..

Bottom line to us:

The Post Office will no longer be delivering Amazon Packages on Sunday, past 1/2 mile from 29A.  Instead you will either be receiving a key to a parcel box on Sunday, or be receiving a notice in your mailbox to pick up your package at the Gloversville Post Office on Monday.

In the past, the carriers on their own initiative had been delivering packages at times, as did the Postal workers on Sunday, however that practice will be no more.

I have tried to maintain a good working relationship with both the carriers and personnel at the Gloversville Post Office to avoid such situations, however once Albany PO was notified via the Dept of Consumer Affairs, then they are taking a hard line and playing strictly by their rules.

I will continue to follow up and see if there is any leeway in this,  or a better solution can be arranged,  however, for right now, this is what I have been advised, so I am passing it on to everyone.

(please realize that I am just the messenger)

Best regards

John
