CSLAP Update from Tom Bielli

The PLPA has been participating in the Citizens Statewide Lake Assessment Program (CSLAP) for many years. CSLAP allows us to monitor the chemical and physical properties of the lake. Any changes in the data collected may be indicative of changes in the water quality. CSLAP is a collaborative effort between the New York State Federation of Lake Associations (NYSFOLA), of which we are a member, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC).

We have received the report from the DEC from our 2024 monitoring season (June through September). The report shows that Peck Lake continues to be Mesotrophic, which means it contains a moderate amount of nutrients and supports a healthy, diverse population of aquatic plants, animals, and algae. The report also shows that the chemical
and physical properties that we test for; nitrogen, phosphorous, calcium, chloride, color, pH and conductance have remained stable and healthy throughout the previous decade. For those keeping track, the report does show that temperatures have decreased over the past decade, however, that decrease is attributable to an error in the sampling method from earlier years of the studies.
