North Shore Trails Update

By Dick Carlson

Now that spring is here and the snow is rapidly melting we are once again looking forward to enjoying the outdoors on the PLPA trails on the North Shore. Most of the trails are on Peck-owned property, which the Peck family has graciously allowed us to use. Earlier this year the Pecks shared with the PLPA their plans to harvest timber on their lands near North Shore Road in keeping with their commitment to NYS DEC to practice forestry management on these properties.

You can read more about it here.

Working with their forestry management team, the Pecks have developed a two-stage harvest plan. The first phase will stretch from the end of the North Shore Road to the NE side of Beaver Bay Creek and will start early this spring.
When cutting begins access to the work site will be strictly prohibited for safety considerations, as logging sites can be hazardous. This restriction will include access to the portion of the trail system that is located within the first phase of the logging operation. Once a firm work schedule has been established we will share that information with you by posting it on the PLPA website and via PLPA email.
We would like to take this opportunity to remind those who use the trails that it is up to all of us to do our part to keep them in good condition. If you see a tree, branch or other impediment blocking the trail and you can remove it off the trail, please do. If it’s too big for you to move, let us know by sending us an email at [email protected]. Make sure
you include which trail you were on.

Be respectful! The trails are on PRIVATE property. Don’t leave refuse behind and remember you are often not far from someone’s home. Also, the PLPA assumes no liability for use of the hiking trails. All those using the hiking trails do so at their own risk.
