Why Container Drives

The Container drives are a major source of revenue for our fish fund, which we use to stock the lake with fish each year. During a normal year, we raise about two thousand dollars from all the returnable cans and bottles we collect, sort, and return to a local return center. At 5 cents a can or bottle, that’s a lot of recycleables!

A reminder, put your empties out the evening BEFORE the container drive (or before 9am the morning of).

Join Us

The Container Drives are usually a joint undertaking by the Peck family and the PLPA. The Peck’s allow us to use the tent at the Marina as the home base for sorting. Volunteers, including Peck family members and PLPA members, collect the bags of empty (usually empty!) cans and bottles along the roadsides and bring them back to the Marina — where a crew of sorters is waiting to sort and count them before they are transported to a local recycling center. The more volunteers we have, the faster it goes. So if you haven’t volunteered before, we’d love to have you. You might have more fun than you’d think and meet some of your neighbors!
